Ans: There is no difference between Microsoft Dynamics 365 – The base of Microsoft Dynamics 365 is AX 2012 R3 , a version of Microsoft Dynamics that is proven, robust for all mission critical enterprise operations and by far unmatched par excellence product.

Is Upgrade for existing Microsoft Dynamics AX users to Microsoft Dynamics 365, an Obvious?

Lets Look at the chart below and understand the basics . Microsoft’s support for its products and services is referred to as the Microsoft Support Lifecycle.

Mainstream support included is the first phase support provided by Microsoft for the first 5 years of the product launch and includes Incident support which includes no charge, paid and warranty claims; Security updates and Ability to request hotfixes that are not security related.

Extended support covers after the 5 years of the mainstream support getting over and cover the same as mainstream except a few items.

If you look at the table below the mainstream support dates ends for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 by 2021 and for the earlier versions gets over by October 2018. With mainstream support ending the new features, fixes and security updates are no longer issued. Which means that Dynamics AX customers will need to eventually move to upgrading to Dynamics 365 sooner or later. However, it depends from case to case how clients can use the extended support to their advantage as late as 2021 in the case of Dynamics AX 2012 and Dynamics AX 2012 R2 the support is further till 2023 for Dynamics AX 2012 R3 – which means there is no hurry to upgrade.
