  • F&O can track and control over-budget spending by linking budget control to Purchase requisition and Purchase orders. This feature allows management to set limits for a certain commodity such as office supplies.
  • The Supply Chain Functionality of Dynamics 365 is the “Advanced warehouse management” module which helps manage the warehousing processes in manufacturing, distribution, and retail companies. Advanced warehousing supports all types of processes including purchase receipts, sales order pick/pack/and ship operations, customer returns, warehouse transfer orders etc.

Q1. When discussing about the CFO dashboard you mentioned about Warehousing Dashboard as well. What is captured here and is it out of box?

The warehousing dashboard is available out of the box. The warehouse dashboard displays metrics for shipping and Inbound performance, as well as Location Inventory accuracy. The warehouse and the CFO analytics are not the only ones available out of the box. Others include sales, procurement, sourcing, etc.

Q2. One of your slides mentioned Azure Cognitive Services and that 600+ Azure applications were available. Can you please elaborate?

Azure ecosystem has solutions for solving variety of complex needs such as AI and Machine Learning, Analytics, Blockchain, Mixed Reality, Internet of Things etc. Each of these categories have tools, applications, prebuilt algorithms to solve your unique needs. For E.g., if we take just one application, Anomaly detector – which is part of the Decision-making capabilities of Azure Cognitive Services. It ingests time-series data of all types and selects the best anomaly detection algorithm for your data to ensure high accuracy. A real case study is where Airbus deployed Anomaly Detector, part of Cognitive Services, to monitor the condition of an aircraft and fix potential problems before they occur. Likewise, there are hundreds use cases which can be solved using the Azure stack of services.

Q3. We are in a highly customized AX 2009 environment. How do you ensure a smooth cutover to D365 F&O with no disruption?

We have skilled and experienced consultants who have worked in the older versions of D365 F&O, such as AX 2009, AX 2012 etc. In these cases, along with studying their latest business processes and requirements, we also analyze the customizations existing in the current environment and come out with a detailed mapping on realizing the requirements either by elimination, configuration, or extension. And our experience is that we have eliminated a major chunk of customizations by way of an improved process design or by utilizing the new functionality of D365 F&O. We document these detailed mapping in our Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) which cross-references the other documents such as Solution Blueprint (SBP), Technical Design Documents (TDD) etc.

Q4. Can you please touch again on the benefits of your Agile version of Sure Step methodology and how it ensures a smoother implementation?

The greatest merit of our methodology is the constant interaction with the users at all levels. We demonstrate the configurations and customizations to them at a very frequent intervals while the solution is shaping up. This helps us in accommodating manageable changes into the releases and helps in gaining rapid adoption of the new processes for users. This is a critical success factor for the project.

Q5. What is the common data service, and does it connect to non-Microsoft environments as well?

Microsoft Common Data Service- now called as Microsoft Dataverse lets you securely store and manage data that’s used by business applications. Data within Dataverse is stored within a set of tables. App makers can then use Power Apps to build rich applications that use this data.

Dynamics 365 applications—such as Dynamics 365 Sales, Dynamics 365 Customer Service, or Dynamics 365 Talent—also use Dataverse to store and secure the data they use. This enables you to build apps by using Power Apps and Dataverse directly against your core business data, which is already used within Dynamics 365, without the need for integration.

Microsoft Power platform provides connectors to a lot of Non-Microsoft apps like Salesforce, SAP, Oracle, etc that can exchange data.

Q6. We pay AMC to Microsoft, and we can get D365 licenses. Can we just upgrade to D365 on–prem?

It is always good to be current on Annual Maintenance Contact on Microsoft On-Premises Dynamics Suite (CRM, SL, GP, NAV, AX). There are a few upgrade options to move from these on-premise ERPs to new Microsoft Dynamics Cloud based ERPs. Ofcourse, every customer’s CRM/ERP configuration is different.
